Future of the group

Journal Entry: Wed Apr 2, 2014, 10:41 AM
Future of the group

UPDATE!! - The feedback so far suggests challenges that last 2 months would be better so I will give this a try which means that the March challenge is extended. You now have until the end of April to subit your entries to the March folder.
That means I will have an even number of months left in the year for doing the rest of the challenges :)

So the subscription a.k.a polls, widgits, journal skins... Runs out on the 20th of April. It is going to cost me roughly £36 ($59.95) to renew. That's not a small amount.
Before I post the March poll or the April challenge I want to it worth continuing?

The entries have been dwindling, I have no active admins to help me out. The Secret santa failed miserably. Should I just call it quits and give up or do you have a better idea?

Going to set up a poll for suggestions, this is not an april fool as it is after noon. Please answer seriously.

Sadly we are still missing 3 Secret Santas so I do believe its time to name and shame.

kay-ler (who begged to be let in late :( ) was meant to be drawing for Decay9
Tiger-tyger was meant to be drawing for FlyingMidnite
Arzefiel was meant to be drawing for SkyBlueButterfly

Can I just remind everyone that if you take part in our Secret Santa you MUST -
1. Draw a dragon by 25th December or let me know why it will be late/when it will be finished.
(what is the point in taking part if you are not going to give out your secret santa before Christmas, why hold onto it until it is 2 or 3 weeks late and leave me stressing over whether I need to find a replacement to draw a dragon for your person)

Also please remember if you use any stock I haven't suggested as part of the challenge please check it is:
1. Submitted in one of the stock galleries on deviantart
2. Check the stock artists rules for any restrictions on use.

Also I saw someone submitting photos they found on google as free stock in one of the stock groups I watch, just remember that this is not ok. Despite what they may think about their ability to jump through the gaping loopholes in Deviantart rules, if the image isn't their own photograph stay away from it. If the real artist found you selling prints and took exception it could get messy.

New Gallery folder!
With the introduction of the commission section in the journal I have decided to add a commission folder in the gallery so that if you make a dragon commission for someone you can upload it to our gallery. That means if you advertise commissions in our journal people can see examples of what they could get by viewing the folder in our gallery.

The gallery folder submission rules:

1. Only dragon commissions
2. Must be made by a member, its not open to affiliates but doesn't have to be made for a member.
3. Should be an example of a commission, that's work someone has paid the you to make not a free gift.
4. Can be any medium, I will even accept writing so long as it is a genuine commission for someone.

I would expect when you submit a commission to DA you'll be writing in the deviation description who paid for it so I'll be moderating submission based on the information in your image descriptions.

Note - you can submit old commissions, it doesn't have to be new work for this folder.

BTW - for the commissions folder. Copyright rules apply, for example, I wont be accepting adoptable toothless images as you should not be selling copyrighted characters. A one off private commission of toothless maybe but not sheets of adoptables. Please be careful what you try to sell, especially if you use stock to make it.

One of our members (and previous winners) :iconlutrasilvereye: is offering commissions.
"I would like to take on commissions for the first time! I've currently got two options (see my homepage for more details):
:pointr: A full colour with background (digital only), or..
:pointr: A rough pencil/pen sketch (no colour) or digital (can be colour) with no background."

If you request a dragon then she will donate to our group too. :)
For more details please see her journal…

:icondrerika: is now also offering commissions.
"I do in traditional media quality works (can try to draw everything).
I accept both PayPal (USD$ or EUR€) and DeviantArt points:points:.
Prices starts from 3$.
All info, prices +examples HERE:…

Another of our members and regular secret santa :icondracevestell: is now offering commissions.
"Sketches are mainly traditional, linearts are either traditional or digital, and anything colored is mainly digital. I accept both real money ($) and DA points (:points:)"
More info can be found here:…

Affiliate contests:
None that I know of.

Other contests:
None that I know of, sorry.

My current balance is: 284 points, this will be used to buy 2014's subscription which is about 9700 points.  No hurry there then :)

Note: points must be sent to :iconscellanis: as group points not enabled yet.

Thanks to everyone who donated!!
If you want to help raise points you can try the Llama trading game.
Llama badges are free to give so you can earn a free points without having to pay any money.

::The March 2014 Challenge::

You have until the end of March to submit your entry to the March 2014 entries folder.
This month we have no stock images, instead the theme is:

Pancake Day (Shrove Tuesday) or Mother's Day (Mothering Sunday)

(those of you in America may be confused but the British Mother's day is in March this year, but you will have your dragon early enough to make into a card)

1. Must be new and your own work, please credit all stock used and follow the individual stock artist's rules.
2. Must contain at least one dragon.
3. Must be able to explain how the picture fits the challenge.

alright so I submitted an unfinished version first (by mistake), but seeing how I had no time left I used that for the february challenge... but then I immediatly afterwards uploaded the version where I've actually made all layers visible, and submitted that too; I'd like to withdraw the first one but technically only the first one was within the deadline, sooo...

If it doesn't matter that the second version was 2 minutes after countdown I'd like to withdraw the first one :D

Its fine, I didn't get time to look at them til you submitted both anyway. I've accepted the 2nd version.

thank you very much!! :]

really, it's awesome how you're always so nice and accept my stuff even though I'm always dancing around the deadlines (sorry about that, seriously)!

Hehe, i'm still waiting on another picture, it was in my devwatch before I approved yours but they didn't submit it because they thought they missed the deadline :(

Wow thanks so much for featuring my wasp stock for your February Challenge! Two people have already used it and their work is beautiful. Never thought a wasp could be so pretty

Cool! First thing you need to do is credit the stock image fully. You need to put the stock image's full URL into your image description (not the link)

Then please submit it to our September gallery. I could submit it myself but you would have to approve my request so its easier if you submit it yourself. Then I can just approve it next time I am online. :)
