May Challenge + April Poll

Journal Entry: Sun May 1, 2011, 5:44 AM
::News::
April Poll

Only one poll this week so pick the overall winner please!
[link]

Only 10 entries but I think the spider was very hard and scary so well done to everyone who attempted it, we have wonderful and weird and quite frankly absolutely terrifying entries this month.  I definately squealed.

Feel free to suggest more spider stock to the Favourites Challenge Suggestion folder because I'm not going to browse spider stock to find a good image so if you want to use it again you'll have to find it for me.

Now onto the May challenge, this is a no stock month again.  Something a bit special based on a suggestion from :icondigikijo:. I originally said I wouldn't do it but I've been thinking and worked out a way to do it.

You must draw at least one of the following 3 types of Dragon taken from Dr Ernest Drake's Dragonolgy set of books.
The Knucker (Draco troglodytes) [link]
Lives in Europe. Forest habitat.
"While authorities claim the knucker is simply a junior form of the European dragon, this is almost certainly not the case. Indeed, its preference for damp holes and low-lying locations is in contrast to that of their larger cousins who prefer rocky, mountain areas. Also, although knuckers do hoard treasure they will attack with venom rather than fire.
Found in damp, wealden locations, near food sources such as rabbit warrens. Serpentine in appearance these creatures have on vestigal wings and cannot fly.
Lair or nest - A deep pond, well or 'knucker hole'.
Dimensions (adult) - 30 feet long, 3 to 6 feet high.
Colouration - Leathery brown, dull red, greenish blue.
Forms of attack - Venomous bite, constriction.
Food - Rabbits, deer, farm animals, stray children."

The Asian Lung (Draco orientalis)[link]
Lives in Asia. Mountain habitat.
"Lung are most often found near the rivers, streams and lakes that hide their underwater lairs. Females carry their eggs with them for safety, using the lairs to store the pearls and opals they hoard away. The numbe rof toes varies across the various subspecies.
Lair of Nest - Usually an underwater cave or grotto.
Dimensions (adult) - 40 feet long, 12 to 15 feet high.
Colouration - blue, black, white, red or yellow.
Forms of attack - Horns, teeth & claws used defensively.
Food - Mainly fish and birds, particularly roasted swan."

The Wyvern (Draco africanus) [link]
Lives in Africa. Desert & savanna habitat.
"Unlike most other dragons, the wyvern only has two legs. However, being the largest form of dragon it finds these perfectly sufficient for carrying off its elephant prey.
Lair or Nest - A rocky crag, or occasionally a circular nest in an area of sand dunes or grass.
Dimensions (adult) - 50 feet long, 18 to 20 feet high.
Colouration - Muddy brown to lime green.
Forms of attack - Teeth, claws, lashing tail, dropping from great heights.
Food - Elephants, hippos, rhinos or other large herbivores."

I'd prefer it if you did not combine the types as they live in drastically different enviroments and would probably never meet unless in the cages of a collector or zoo.

My current balance is: 2448 points, this will be used to buy this year's subscription which is about 9700 points and up for renewal on April 20th 2012.

Note: points must be sent to :iconscellanis: as group points not enabled yet.

Thanks to everyone who donated!!

Both, don't do it...they don't live on the same continents, they should only meet by man made methods such as a zoo or collector's cage. Knucker is flightless and so is the Asian Lung, I can't see the Wyvern flying to colder climits to meet them. It needs large prey like elephants anyway so no doubt the other habitats could not sustain it.

Ok. Can you have them in the same picture if they are not meeting?

how can they be in the same picture and not meet? No in this challenge if you want to draw more than one of them you have to draw more than one picture. Sorry, but if you are going to be true to the descriptions provided then you can only draw one type of dragon per image. Nothing to stop you drawing them together for yourself but to qualify for the challenge you can't put multiple species in one picture.

If I draw it up, I'll show you what I mean. They are not really meeting, it just has an image of them were they live.
